Iowa City firefighters worked to extinguish a fire at the home of Craig and Nancy Kohl at 3342 Rohret Road in Iowa City.
Craig said lightning had hit an old TV antenna on the roof around 9:09 p.m. Tuesday, and a wire from antenna was glowing red on the side of the house. He went back into the basement and found the laundry room was on fire.
According to Iowa City Fire Department Captain Brian Platz, the family's pet cat was rescued by firefighters. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but was most likely due to the lightning strike. It took about 20 minutes to bring the fire under control.
