CEDAR RAPIDS -- Electric vehicles are rolling off assembly lines and Van Meter Inc. wants to help local electrical contractors who may be installing charging stations in the future.
The Cedar Rapids-based electrical equipment distributor is offering contractors a no-cost opportunity to learn about the emerging electric vehicle market and how to install the charging infrastructure required to support vehicles during a three-hour class at three of its locations.
The course will be held from 8 to 11:30 a.m. at 850 32nd Ave. SW in Cedar Rapids on Tuesday, Sept. 27; at 5775 Tremont Ave. in Davenport on Thursday, Sept. 29, and at 1751 Guthrie Ave. in Des Moines on Friday, Sept. 30.
The sessions will include an overview of the electric vehicle market, followed by a Webinar addressing installation processes including adapting an existing design to the physical location where the charging system will be installed; a description of charging systems from Level 1 through Level 3 and the special requirements for each system. The classes also will include a review of National Electrical Code Article 625 and the requirements for installing each of the three levels of charging systems; and the process for system commissioning and project closeout.
Participants also will have an opportunity to see sample charging stations and talk directly with manufacturer representatives.
While there is no charge for the sessions, space is limited and registration is required. Interested contractors and trade professionals can register online at https://www.vanmeterinc.com/evtraining.
The registration deadline is Sept. 21. For questions, call 1-(800-247-1410.
