UI, Iowa City alcohol crackdown justified
Wow, the University of Iowa (from which I just retired) has really come crashing down on the problem of heavy drinking and drinking underage. In just a couple of years, the “elders,” both at the UI and in the Iowa City government, have tightened the booze belt - no, they have tightened the booze noose at a location, downtown, and an event, Iowa Hawkeye football.
If ever there was an issue where many of us have just plain done a 180, it is this alcohol thing! No question that 40 years ago I would have cried bloody murder at those old relics who were pulling a fascist fast one on us innocents.
Now I find myself looking at what excessive alcohol can do to people, families and telephone poles, and retreat into my post-60 mantra of “all things in moderation” and hearing my dad say, “This is for your own good!”
