Leslie Wainwright, 100, of Cedar Rapids, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 14, 2016. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, with graveside services at 1 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include a son, Roger and wife Susan and two grandchildren, Kristie and Laura of Tulsa, Okla.; son, Gary and wife Suzanne of Grand Rapids, Mich., and three grandchildren, Erica, Ben and Amy; daughter, Barb Auer of Cedar Rapids; sister, Eva Brackett of Longview, Wash.; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ferne; and one sister, Wanda.
Leslie was born June 16, 1915, in Deep River, Iowa, to Fred and Ella Wainwright. He married Ferne Birchmier on July 10, 1943, in her parent's home near Bloomfield. Leslie graduated from Iowa State College in 1938. He was an electrical engineer and a longtime employee of Collins Radio.
