Whiting, Irene Kroupa
Irene Kroupa Whiting, 89, of Cedar Rapids, died Nov. 21, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospital following a short illness. Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 25, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. The Rev. Jerry Springston of The Church on Northland (First Baptist Church-Church of the Brethren). Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Irene is survived by her daughter, Paulette Randall and son-in-law Michael Randall of Cedar Rapids; sister-in-law, Natalie Kroupa; nephew, Kent (Linda) Kroupa; and great-nephews, Bradley and Craig Kroupa, all of Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Whiting in 1993; parents, Joseph and Mary Kroupa; a sister, Evelyn Epperson; and brother, Marvin Kroupa.
Irene was born July 12, 1924, to Joseph and Mary Kroupa in Cedar Rapids. On Dec. 12, 1943, she married Paul Whiting. Irene graduated from Roosevelt High School in June 1942. Upon graduation she worked at Quaker Oats until her marriage. After living in Seattle, Wash., they returned to Cedar Rapids. She then worked at Killian's and then Patterson Dental for 27 years.
While attending Calvary Baptist Church she served as a Deaconess, church clerk, and Sunday school junior superintendent. She later transferred her membership to First Baptist Church-Church of the Breathren. She volunteered at Mercy Medical Center, having over 1,000 hours.
Both she and her husband attended all Iowa football events and were also very faithful fans of the Chicago Cubs.
Irene was a loving and caring person.
Memorials in Irene's honor may be directed to Camp Courageous of Iowa or to a charity of the donor's choosing.
