Kness, Velma Lois Nixon
Velma Lois Nixon Kness, 91, passed away Thursday, May 10, 2012, at Scottish Rite Park, Des Moines. Memorial Services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, June 8, at Scottish Rite Park Penthouse, 2902 Woodland Ave., Des Moines. Interment will follow at noon in Pine Hill Cemetery.
Velma was born Oct. 30, 1920. She graduated from Newell High School in 1939 and married Lester E. Kness on June 14, 1941. She was a mother and homemaker. Velma was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher, and member of various church groups for many years.
Surviving her are her three sons, Lee (Pat) Kness, Wade Kness and Dean (Fauna) Kness; one daughter, Kathy Kness Wauson; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester E. Kness, of 71 years; father, Claude S. Nixon; mother, Nellie M. Williamson Nixon; and two sisters, Olive (Ken) Shurr and Doris (Scotty) Kier.
Velma was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
Memorials may be directed in memory of Velma L. Kness, in lieu of flowers, and sent to Kathy Kness Wauson, 105 Parkview Dr., Albia, IA 52531.
