Floyd was born April 22, 1919, in Belle Plaine, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Anna (Konvalinka) Vesely. He attended and graduated from University High School in Iowa City in 1938. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army, being stationed in the Philippines and New Guinea. During this time he was wounded in combat, receiving the Purple Heart.
Returning to Iowa City following his service, he returned to work for University Hospitals, where he worked before the war, in the linen department, a job he held for over 35 years before retirement. He was united in marriage to Ruby L. (Nephew) Shank on March 1, 1956.
Floyd was a member of the I.O.O.F. He enjoyed working in his garden, going to the casino (always a winner!), cheering on the Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawks, but most of all, he loved his family and friends.
Everyone who ever knew Floyd knew a nice gentle soul who simply loved life.
His family includes his sister, Phyllis Vesely of Iowa City; stepson, Robert Shank (Donna) of Iowa City; stepdaughter, Janet Mellecker of Ohio; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruby; brothers, Harold and Kenneth Vesely; and sister-in-law, Maxine Vesely.
