Game blog: C.R. Jefferson at Linn-Mar (Update 10:11 p.m.)

Linn-Mar hosts Cedar Rapids Jefferson tonight in a Mississippi Valley Conference game. Currently, the sophomores are tied with 23 seconds left in the game.

Not sure when we'll kickoff the varsity game but check back often.

Sophomores are in a battle. They're in OT right now with Jefferson on offense to start. Jefferson scores a TD and leads 27-20. Linn-Mar on offense. J-Hawks stop the Lions on a conversion attempt and win in OT, 27-26.

Look for a kickoff at about 7:35-40 p.m.

Linn-Mar band is marching now. I'm dropping  it like it's hot in the press box. I've been asked several times to stop. I'm not in control, people, the music is.

We're kicking off now. Linn-Mar kicking off to Jefferson.

Jefferson's Tanner Unkel takes opening kickoff and returns it to Linn-Mar 12 before getting caught from behind. J-Hawks advance to eight but a no-gain and sack pushes them back and they miss a field goal.

Linn-Mar takes over on down and after a holding penalty on the opening play, Mark Atwater keeps it on an option-keeper and goes around the right end and out-runs Jefferson defenders for an 88-yard TD. Garman takes a pitch on conversion attempt and scores. Linn-Mar up, 8-0, with 9:02 to go in first.

Linn-Mar faced a 3rd and 33 from their own 15 after a bad snap on first down resulted in a 23-yard loss. No worries. Atwater throws screen pass right to Garman who makes two beautiful cuts to the left and runs away from everyone for an 85-yard TD reception. Michael Zimmerman with the PAT and Linn-Mar is up, 15-0 with 5:22 to go in the first quarter.

At the end of the first quarter, Linn-Mar leads 15-0. jefferson does have the ball first and 10 at the Linn-Mar 31 to start the second.

Jefferson advances to Linn-Mar 10 and drive ends in missed field goal. 15-0 Linn-Mar early in second.

Jefferson advances deep in Linn-Mar territory and turns it over on downs when Atwater bats down a pass in the end zone on 4th down.

Linn-Mar takes over on their own 21 with 34 seconds to go in the half. Atwater hits Josh Montague on a crossing pattern for 19 yards. Then Atwater hits Mason Krusie for a 60-yd. TD with 16 seconds to go in the first half. Play fake got corner to bite leaving Krusie alone down the left side of the field. He makes the catch and cuts to the middle and scoring to put the Lions up, 22-0, at the half.

At the half, Atwater has 121 yards rushing on three carries, including an 88-yd TD run. He's 3-for-9 passing with 164 yards and two TDs. He set up the score before halftime by batting a 4th-down pass by Jefferson in the end zone.

Lions opening drive is a 66-yard that's capped by a 45-yard TD pass from Atwater to Mason Krusie on a post down the middle of the field on a 3rd and 15. Zimmerman kick and Lions are up 29-0 with 8:36 to go in 3rd.

Tanner Unkel runs 29 yards for a TD and the PAT is good. 29-7 LM with 4:57 to go in 3rd.

garam has scored on runs of 3 and 18 yards and Unkel added another TD run for 15 yards. It's 43-15 Linn-Mar with 2:20 to go in game.
