Kearney, Evan Meredith
Evan Meredith Kearney was born on Oct. 14, 1920, and died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2011.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Jean, whom he married in 1947, and a daughter and son-in-law, Roxanne and David Hauge, along with two grandsons, Andrew (Annie) and Matthew Hauge.
Evan was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey; his sister, Rosamond DeVoe; and his parents, Omer and Elise Kearney.
Evan was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was a student at the University of Iowa for three years but was drafted into the U.S. Army at the start of his last year. He remained in the Army for three years during World War II, then started working at Wilson and Company, meatpacker, of Cedar Rapids where he continued for 31 years.
Evan and Doris moved to Des Moines in 1984. They both remained members of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids, but also were associate members of West Des Moines United Methodist Church.
Memorial services will take place 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, at Iles Funeral Homes-Dunn's Chapel, Des Moines. Private burial will take place at Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
