Dennis D. Jacobs, 55, of Lombard, Ill., died peacefully at home from lymphoma on Saturday, March 7, 2015. Services: 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Jude Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Mark Reasoner. Burial: St.
Joseph Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. A vigil service will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Teahen Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids, where friends may visit with the family until 7 p.m. Friends also may visit after 9 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Survivors include his wife, Julie Hearst; daughters, Dani (Pat) Kremer and Nicole (Mike) Flockhart of Cedar Rapids; son, Nathan (friend Mary Kate Fink) Jacobs of Lombard, Ill.; and grandchildren, Kaylee and Karson Kremer and Mikayla and Alexandra Flockhart.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Wilmer and Lyle Jacobs.
Dennis Dean was born Jan. 8, 1960, in Waterloo, the son of Wilmer A. and Lyle Amy Burroughs Jacobs. He graduated from Wartburg College in 1982. Dennis married Julie L. Hearst on Feb. 20, 1993, at St. Jude Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. He was the editor of the Lockport Legend. Dennis was an award winning journalist, sports and travel writer and author of More or Less Loess, exploring Iowa's Loess Hills.
Dennis was a member of St. Petronille Catholic Church in Glen Ellyn, Ill. He enjoyed traveling, reading, sports and outdoor activities.
Memorials will be directed to the family.
