Monteith, Cleona Lee 'Tony' (Sales)
Cleona Lee “Tony” (Sales) Monteith was born Dec. 3, 1921, to Charles and Frankie (Ferren) Sales in Seymour, Iowa. She went to be with her Lord and Savior on Nov. 11, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids at the age of 88 years, 11 months and 8 days.
She was united in marriage to Edward “Earl” Monteith on Feb. 23, 1941. To this union was born one daughter, Linda Marlee, and one son, Robert Edward.
Surviving are daughter, Linda (Allen) Hancox of Atkins; son, Robert (Marilyn) Monteith of Fort Dodge; five grandchildren, Rick (Lisa) Hancox of Cedar Rapids, Angela (Jeff) Loney of West Des Moines, Sheri (Mike McCormick) of Marion, James (Jenny) Hancox of Marion and Jeff (Jenny) Monteith of New Hampton; seven great-granddaughters, Samantha, Sydney, Josephine, Noelle, Bayley, Ainsley and Emerson; seven great-grandsons, Jasper, Baylor, Braedon, Noah, Easton, Jarrett and Dawson; two great-great-grandsons, Devin and Logan; and three sisters-in-law, Virginia Sales of Seymour, Anna Gene Markin of Largo, Fla., and Ruth Monteith of Fort Dodge.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Earl; her parents, Charlie and Frankie Sales; brother, Wyllard Sales; and great-granddaughter, Kristen Noelle Monteith.
Cleona graduated from Seymour High School in 1939 and worked along with her husband at a local grocery store, which they later purchased and sold after Earl was drafted into the Army. Cleona then became a stay-at-home mom. When her children were raised, she returned to work first at McGraw/Edison in Centerville and later for Joe Horn Insurance in Centerville until her retirement.
During her retirement years she, above all, enjoyed her family, the several winters she and Earl spent in Apache Junction, Ariz., and visiting and communicating with her many friends and relatives.
She accepted the Lord as her personal savior and was a member of First Baptist Church in Seymour for many years. After moving to the Cedar Rapids area she joined Blair Ridge Baptist Church and faithfully attended until her health would no longer allow.
She had a smile for everyone she met and her caring personality made her a friend to many.
She leaves to mourn her passing her family and a host of friends.
She will be greatly missed here on earth but Heaven has gained a beautiful angel with an engaging smile.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, at Randolph Funeral Home in Seymour, with visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday. Burial: Southlawn Cemetery, Seymour.
