Forkenbrock, James Joseph
James Joseph Forkenbrock, born on August 11, 1940, in Dyersville, Iowa, passed away Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012 in San Antonio, Texas. Jim was the eldest child of the late Bernard and Esther Bergfeld Forkenbrock.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Carol, of 51 years; siblings and their spouses, Bob and Lois, Fred and Mary, David and Susie, Mary Ann and Dave, and Jerry; children and their spouses, Michael and Shauna, Tom and Becky, and Sandy and Tim; grandchildren, Olivia, Zachary, Grace, Chase, Allison and her husband, Blake, Samantha, and Sara; and great-grandchildren, Nolan and Caroline.
Jim graduated from St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas in 1963. He was a lifelong public servant: 42 years as a high schoolteacher, from Edgewood-Colesburg High School in Iowa to Central Catholic High School in San Antonio. He also served as mayor of Edgewood, Iowa; Iowa State House candidate; past president of the Alumni Association, and Board of Trustee member at St. Mary's University. Jim also volunteered for numerous other organizations.
Memorial service is Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012 at Assumption Chapel, St. Mary's University, 1 Camino Santa Maria, San Antonio, TX, 78228 with a 4 p.m. rosary and Remembrances followed by a 5 p.m. Mass. The Reverend Rudy Vela will officiate. A reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary's Annual Scholarship Fund.
