Nolan, James David
James David Nolan, 74, of Cedar Rapids, died at his home Sunday, March 17, 2013. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, St. Jude Catholic Church by the Rev. Mark Reasoner with military honors presented by the American Legion Post 727. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery. A vigil service will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Teahen Funeral Home where friends may visit with the family following the vigil service until 8 p.m. and after 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Jim is survived by his wife, Carolyn; a son, John (Katie Baumhover) of Cheyenne, Wyo.; a daughter, Angie (Ben) French of Cedar Rapids; and four sisters, Marge (Greg) Schaefers of Center Point, Betty Achey of Hiawatha and Kay Kayser and Rosie Nolan, both of Cedar Rapids.
His parents preceded him in death.
Jim was born June 5, 1938, in Independence, the son of John and Mildred McElliott Nolan and graduated from Lamont High School in 1956. He married Carolyn Elise Kramer on Oct. 30, 1976 in Cedar Rapids. Jim retired in 1998 as a weight officer from the Iowa Department of Transportation. He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church and an Army and Navy veteran.
Jim was an avid sports fan especially when it came to love of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Chicago Cubs. He also enjoyed spending time with friends playing golf and cards.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
