Burmeister, Virgil Keith
Virgil Keith Burmeister, 85, died Aug. 9, 2012, at Sunnycrest Nursing Home in Dysart after a short illness. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 13, at the Elberon United Methodist Church. Visitation will be Sunday, Aug. 12, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Overton Funeral Home in Dysart. Burial will be in Dysart Cemetery.
Keith was born Jan. 16, 1927, in rural Elberon, Iowa, the son of Henry and Minnie (Selk) Burmeister. He married Betty Fullmer on Jan. 27, 1951, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Keith farmed for 42 years until his retirement in 1996.
He loved to golf, travel, and participate in antique hot rod and tractor pulling. Keith served in the Army during the Korean conflict for 18 months from 1946 to 1947. He was a member of the Keystone American Legion Post 107 and the Elberon United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty; four daughters, Deborah Karr of Murray, Utah, Carol of Albuquerque, N.M., Cheryl of Santa Cruz, Calif., and Denise (Doug) Krutzfeldt of Solon; three grandsons; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Don (Helen) Burmeister; and a sister, Evelyn Greenwood.
Keith was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Melvin; and a sister, Arlene Forrest.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
