STUDENT DEBT: Yes, average student loan debt for Iowa State University graduates dropped slightly from 2008-09 to 2009-10, the latest Board of Regents data shows. But ISU still has the highest average, $29,475. And overall, the news was not good. Student debt levels continued rising at the University of Iowa (to $25,515) and the University of Northern Iowa (to $25,735). Both UI and UNI figures jumped by more than $1,000. The report also showed that among students at the three universities who applied for federal financial aid, the number of their families who had an expected contribution of zero increased by nearly two-thirds to 1,997.

STADIUM WATER WOES: Linn-Marr's new multipurpose stadium, expected to cost up to $10 million, is nearly finished but serious water problems already have surfaced. They include downspouts that are emptying rainwater into the main plaza and leaks in the press box and concession areas. The stadium, which replaces flood-prone Armstrong Field, is being used for soccer and track and will make its football field debut this fall. School officials are meeting with architects first to see if the problems are designed related.
