Letter: Bring farm museum back to Cedar Rapids

As I read the Nov. 21 guest column by Jenny Schulz 'Seize opportunity before us,” I was shocked to see one of her ideas was 'An America Needs Farms museum or interactive center that celebrates pigs, cows or corn.”
Cedar Rapids has, or should I say, had one. Seminole Valley Farm Museum. It was pretty much destroyed in the Flood of 2008. The city owns and is to maintain the buildings. Little has been done in 10 years. Some of the FEMA money did restore two out buildings, but the city has not restored the house, barn, machine shed and shop building. A handful of volunteers have worked for nearly 10 years at rebuilding a registered historical site. A private nonprofit group owns the contents, but has no buildings for their displays. It makes sense to me that Schulz and others should urge the city to rebuild what we had at one time - an active farm museum in the city.
