Second Amendment is not about hunting

To the editor:
There were inconsistencies in Gail Coleman's Feb. 12 letter 'Stand Your Ground law not necessary.” She attempted to sound pro-Second Amendment by stating that her brothers were hunters. The Second Amendment is not about hunting. Rather, it guarantees the right to keep and bear arms for the protection of lives, property and the defense of our nation.
Opposing the concepts of Stand Your Ground and concealed carry, she said, 'We have laws that allow you to defend your life if it is threatened.” What does she propose we defend them with? Lipstick? Sock puppets?
She also claimed, 'No one needs a sidearm to go to Home Depot.” Coincidentally, the same day her letter was printed, I read about a CCW holder who halted a stabbing assault at a Wal-Mart. Perhaps she thinks it makes a difference which big-box store you patronize.
In the midst of the current anti-bullying campaigns so concerned with shoving or cyber insulting, it's hard to believe anyone could be against a Stand Your Ground law that declares we don't have to be beaten, raped or murdered, whether in our homes, on public streets or a Home Depot store.
