Panek, Wesley John
Wesley John Panek, 74, of Marion, died Friday, Aug. 13, 2010, at Willow Gardens Care Center, Marion. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 16, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marion. The family will greet friends from 3 to 6 p.m. today at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, with a Scripture service to begin at 4 p.m.
Survivors include his wife, Janice; a daughter, Julie (Allyn) Johnston of Cedar Rapids; sons, Tom (special friend, Tracy) Panek of Aneta, N.D., Steve (special friend, Florence) Panek of California and Matt (Cathy) Panek of North Liberty; three sisters, Mary Flickinger, Charlotte Starkey and Helen Schmuecker; and 10 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two great-grandchildren and his four brothers.
Wes was born July 8, 1936, the son of Frank and Blanche (Dvorak) Panek, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He married Janice Gosnell on May 23, 1959, in Cedar Rapids. Wes was employed by Rockwell Collins for 33 years until his retirement in 1990. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church for 49 years.
Wes loved his family and enjoyed hunting, fishing, Cubs baseball and Hawkeye sports.
A memorial fund has been established in Wes's memory.
