Support of Iowa City building is baffling

Your support for Marc Moen to get more TIF money from Iowa City baffles me ('Iowa City project fits the bill for TIF,” July 22).
This puts an additional burden on the individual taxpayer to help him get exactly what he wants - another expensive high-rise complex downtown.
Who's buying these condos, anyway? And as for a bowling alley, when there was one at the UI Union, it was eventually closed because of lack of use. There is a FilmScene downtown. How would handing Moen TIF money affect that venue? Hope it doesn't put a small-business owner out of business.
Then there's the huge lack of affordable housing all over Iowa City and Coralville.
We have so many people in need of low-income housing and it's very hard to come by.
Those of us who work to find housing, food, utilities, etc., know how little money there is out there to serve the less fortunate population.
The voters didn't have a say in this. Looks as if the City Council rubber-stamped one more Moen project.
