City needs to curb its spending

To the editor:
Oh my, how this city loves to spend money! We need more Carol Martins to rise up with the voice of reason. A mall access/overpass for $15 million? A 27-cent library tax? Surely there was a study done to count how many people want to walk or bike across Collins Road, right? The residential neighborhood base north of Collins is pretty small and really, what shopper is going to park at Hobby Lobby, walk to Sears, then return back to their parking spot carrying a toaster oven?
Certainly a safe pedestrian/bike crossing can be built for less. And why I'll vote 'no” for the library tax - has anyone noticed there is no library on the NE side? Marion and Hiawatha should charge a usage tax for Cedar Rapids residents. Honestly, my dentist has more parking than the downtown branch.
Is it wise to vote for a never-ending tax that only benefits a select portion of Cedar Rapids? I have five kids, so it's not like we don't use the (Marion) Library, but the recent mailer was not convincing in the least.
