Fire damages Iowa City home
A fire caused an estimated $45,000 in damage to an Iowa City home Monday night.
Firefighters were called to 1402 Esther St. just after 8 p.m. Monday. When they arrived, they found moderate smoke coming from the the split-level, single-family home.
The fire, in the home's kitchen, was extinguished within 50 minutes. The home's occupants escaped safely, and no one was hurt, fire officials said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
