Local children with a passion for baseball have the chance to get personal instruction from the Kernels this summer.
The Cedar Rapids Kernels will hold its annual youth baseball camp on June 17-18 for boys and girls ages 7-12. The camp costs $90 and is held at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each day.
Kids will participate in various drills and Kernels players and coaches will be on hand to provide insight and instruction on the major fundamentals of hitting, base running, throwing and catching. The drills are designed to improve each camper's fundamental skills and will prove to be a valuable resource for any young baseball player.
Those who sign up will need to provide a baseball glove and athletic shoes in order to take part in the camp. Baseball bats will be provided at the camp, but kids can also bring their own.
In addition to participating in the clinic, children who sign up will also receive a camp T-shirt, lunch each day, and four ticket coupons that can be swapped for four plaza tickets to any regular season Kernels home game.
Those interested in taking part in the camp can register online at www.kernels.com. The deadline to register is June 10.
