Krapfl, Karen M.
Karen M. Krapfl, 68, of Dyersville, died Monday, Sept. 5, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center in Dyersville, after a courageous battle with cancer. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville, where a parish Scripture service will be held at 4 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville, with burial in the church cemetery.
Karen was born Oct. 28, 1942, in Monticello, Iowa, the daughter of Wilfred “Bubbles” and Mary (Kurt) Dolphin. She graduated from St. Mary's High School in Cascade with the class of 1961. She married William “Bill” Krapfl on Sept. 14, 1968, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Cascade. Karen was a cook at Beckman High School and then at Mercy Medical Center in Dyersville, until her retirement in 2008.
Karen loved spending time with her grandchildren, volunteering at Xavier Grade School and at Mercy Hospital. She also loved trips to the casino and traveling. She was proud to have been to 48 states.
She is survived by her husband, Bill; four children, Mike (Lisa) and Ted Krapfl, both of Dubuque, Matt (Kim) and Sue Krapfl, both of Dyersville; six grandchildren, Mitchell, Katie, Hannah and Noah Krapfl and Camden and Sam Krapfl; one sister, Joyce (Danny) Cappiello of Barrington, N.H.; three brothers, John (Audrey) Dolphin of Marion, Steve Dolphin of Cascade, and Kevin (Mary Jane) Dolphin of Mason City; three brothers-in-law, Merle (Donna) Krapfl, Floyd (Carol) Krapfl and John (Velma) Krapfl, all of Dyersville; and a sister-in-law, Joan (Ralph) Werner of Strawberry Point.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents; her parents-in-law, Leonard and Clara Krapfl; and a sister-in-law and her husband, Arlene and Jim Tauke.
Memorials are preferred.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Kukla and his staff, and the staffs of Hospice of Dubuque, the Wendt Center and Mercy Respite Care.
