People, not guns, cause the problems

To the editor:
Daily we read in the paper or see on TV stories that the media and law enforcement have decided to call ‘gun violence.' It is not! Why aren't they calling it what it should be: ‘people violence?'
It is not the guns which are causing all these issues, it's the people. I call it the four Cs of violence: cutlery, crowbar, cellphone or car. Let's start doing background checks on all people before they purchase one of these items. People are being harmed or killed by being stabbed, beaten, cellphone social media concerns, and voluntary or involuntary manslaughter issues by motor vehicle. It's more than being done by guns. Do the math.
Give someone a cellphone and place them behind the wheel. It's as bad as being in possession of a loaded gun. Cars don't mysteriously cross the centerline on a clear day on their own or run down a crowd of people. Half the people on the road shouldn't even own a car, in my opinion. While behind the wheel, people are doing everything but paying attention - texting, eating, reading, putting on makeup, you name it, and we see it daily.
It is not us responsible gun owners causing the gun violence, so stop labeling us as the bad guys. It's the public in general who should be labeled as part of the violence issue. Look in the mirror and call it what it should be: ‘people violence.'
