Seward, Vera
Vera Seward, 92, died Saturday, March 6, 2010, at the Lutheran Home in Strawberry Point. Memorial services will be at a later date. Vera's body was donated to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City for medical research.
Vera was born April 2, 1917, in Petersburg, Iowa. She was the daughter of Ben and Henrietta (Klosterman) Woerdehoff. Vera was raised and educated in the area, attending Catholic school. Her family then moved to Edgewood in March 1936. Vera was united in marriage to Cleo Seward at St. Mark's Church in Edgewood on April 27, 1944. They then moved to Strawberry Point. She was a member of St. Mary's Church and DLCC. She was a former longtime member of St. Mary's Choir and a charter member of the Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include her brothers, John Woerdehoff of Dubuque and Merle (Norma) Woerdehoff of Edgewood; her sisters, Elva Woerdehoff of Minneapolis and Lola Kies of Dubuque; her nieces and nephews; and her great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Vera was preceded in death by her parents; a sister in 1918; a brother, Cyril in 2001; and her husband, Cleo, in June 1999.
