TIFFIN - Clear Creek Amana High School's musical this school year will be 'Beauty and the Beast.”
Premiering sometime during spring of 2018, this Disney musical classic follows a young French woman, named Belle, as she befriends a dangerous beast. This musical features great songs such as 'Be Our Guest” and 'Something There.”
'It's a musical I've wanted to do for a long time,” said CCA musical director and choir teacher Tracy Williams. 'I really love the music in it, and I love the storyline. I love the costumes ... our costumes are going to be outstanding and gorgeous.
'I'm really excited about getting to perform this and having a good cast with this musical.”
Last year, Clear Creek Amana High School's musical was 'The Music Man.” One difference between 'Beauty and the Beast” and 'The Music Man” is the former is more popular with younger generations.
'This is a musical that all generations enjoy, so I think that's what the difference is, is that it's a family show and a lot of people know this musical,” Williams said. 'It helped having (Disney's live action 'Beauty and the Beast”) come out last year.”
The musical is something Williams and many CCA students look forward to each year.
'The best part about running the musical is getting to work with the students and seeing them continually improve on their vocals, on their acting and their dancing,” Williams said. 'So it's exciting to see the growth and that's what I look forward to when I work on the musical.”
It's not just the musical itself Williams is looking forward to. She loves working with her students.
'We are a family,” she said. 'We practice together a lot, we spend a lot of time together ... also, it's neat to see someone who has never had the opportunity to perform, and then all of a sudden they get on stage and it's like ‘wow, who was this person?' It's awesome to see that.”
Williams thinks because it's a popular musical and one all generations enjoy, it should be well-attended.
'I think it's gonna be one of the biggest shows that we've had here,” she said.
