Kern, Arlo Francis
Arlo Francis Kern, 79, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Sept. 9, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 13, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Family will greet friends from 9 a.m. until service time.
Survivors include his wife, Donna of Cedar Rapids; son, Rick (Joni) Kern of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Sheri (Brad) Fenton of Cedar Rapids; grandson, Daniel Kern; brother, Elmo (Vonne) Kern of Washington, Iowa; and sister, Cheryl Kern of Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Randi; and two brothers, Cliss and Merv.
Arlo was born Nov. 9, 1933, in Kalona, Iowa, son of Lester and Lovetta (Patterson) Kern. He worked at Farmstead Foods for 28 years and later was a truck driver for Black Hawk Freight. Arlo married Donna Walsinger on Nov. 27, 1952, in Washington, Iowa.
A memorial fund has been established.
