Casady, Donald
Donald Casady, 87, of Iowa City, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2013, at his home. A celebration of life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 10, 2013, at the Coralville United Methodist Church. Following the celebration of life, a gathering will be held at the Iowa City Elk's Country Club from 3 to 5 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Iowa City Hospice.
Donald was born June 8, 1926, in Dean, Iowa, to Benjamin and Hazel Casady. He was a 1944 graduate of Centerville High School. Following graduation, Donald attended the University of Iowa where earned his doctorate 1959. Donald served his country in the United States Air Force. He was in the Air Force Reserves for over 20 years and was lieutenant colonel.
On May 25, 1958, Donald married Gwen Hoglan in Iowa City. Donald worked for 37 years at The University of Iowa as a Physical Education Professor before he retired in 1995. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, Lions Club and many other organizations. In his free time, Donald enjoyed golfing, reading and playing bridge.
Donald is survived by his wife, Gwen; three children, Richard Casady and Martin Casady both of Iowa City and Kevin (Michelle) Casady of Brentwood, Tenn.; and two grandchildren, Ryan Casady and Jordan Casady, both of Brentwood, Tenn.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one brother.
