Outfielder Chevy Clarke and infielder Kaleb Cowart highlight the opening-day roster for the Cedar Rapids Kernels. The parent Los Angeles Angels announced the roster Monday afternoon.
Clarke is a 20-year-old, switch-hitting outfielder from the Atlanta suburbs who was the 30th-overall pick in the 2010 draft. He hit .226 in 51 games last season for the Arizona Rookie League Angels last season.
Second baseman Cowart also is from the Atlanta area and was the 18th-overall pick in the 2010 draft. He hit .283 in 72 games for Rookie-level Orem last season with seven home runs and 40 RBIs and is the No. 6 prospect in the parent Los Angeles Angels farm system, according to Baseball America.
Only four players who spent time in Cedar Rapids last season are part of the opening-day roster: pitchers Jairo Diaz and Ty Kelley, catcher Carlos Lugo and outfielder Ryan Jones.
