Vote in elections to make a difference

To the editor:
I've lived in Cedar Rapids for over 55 years and for over 30 years I drank (not moderately) with police officers, lawyers, judges, clergy, doctors more than I did with my building trades buddies.
The city says they cannot afford more policeman, but they spend over $2 million on Greene Square Park? They give 10- to 20-year tax exemptions downtown and homeowners pay through the nose for increased tax rates.
Our local government leaders (who are overpaid) want us to believe they are serving the people. We have the worst streets of any city and yet we have enough backing and funds to take care of the east side of the Cedar River.
I hope in the next election more people vote and do the right thing for our city and state.
