Chincilla, Roberto Carlos
Roberto Carlos Chinchilla, 13, was granted his angel wings on Monday, April 29, 2013, in his sleep. He was known as Peluche by family and friends his whole life. His final days were happy ones spent with family and friends.
Peluche was born Nov. 14, 1999, in Iowa City, Iowa, to Karina Chinchilla. He attended Lucas Elementary, Kate Wickham Elementary and was attending Northwest Junior High at the time of his passing. He also attended the after school program at Mayor's Youth Empowerment Program.
Peluche's life would seem too short to many, but those he touched will never forget him, his contagious smile, and his peace sign. He was an inspiration and hero to many. His awesome smile could melt the hearts of those around him and often allowed him to get whatever he wanted. Although he had communication issues and could get frustrated, his smile was never far away from his beautiful face and could light up the room.
With Peluche's passing we remind others that his life is one to be celebrated. Although we will miss him every day, especially his winning smile, he will forever remain in our hearts. Above all other activities, Peluche loved to eat but he also enjoyed playing Xbox and PlayStation, riding bikes, dancing, playing soccer, coloring, cars, and visiting with all of “his people.”
Peluche leaves behind many wonderful people who provided him with an abundance of love and support. His family includes his loving mother, Karina Chinchilla and Carlos Rubulcava; sister, Elizabeth Ortiz; brother, William Ortiz; uncle, Carlos and Michelle Chinchilla (cousins, Mason, Arin, Aimar, and Carew Chinchilla); aunt, Alba Chinchilla (cousins, Jennifer Moncallo and Eric Caperone (Javier Caperone), Evelyn Chinchilla, Diana, and Rudy Moncallo); uncle, Fernando Chinchilla and Miriam Hernandez (cousins, Carla and Allison Chinchilla); maternal grandparents, Roberto and Juana Chinchilla of Guatemala; aunt, Marisol Chinchilla of Guatemala; and aunt, Juanita Chinchilla (cousin, Angely) of Guatemala.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, May 4, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Coralville. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Roberto's memory.
Online condolences may be sent for his family through the Web at www.gayandciha.com.
