Orend, Libby A.
Libby A. Orend, 94, of Marion, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Dec. 9, 2011, at Linn Manor Care Center, Marion, following a short illness. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
She is survived by her children, Frances (Bill) Bergum of Billings, Mont., Richard Orend and Robert (Avis) Orend, both of Marion, and Barbara (John Papp) Orend of Clive; her grandchildren, Cassandra Donn, Cecilia (Chad) Luke, Candida (Andrew) Ziehr, Robert (Kathleen) Orend II, Cornelia Orend, Derek (Dianna) Bergum and Trevor (Joanna) Bergum; 13 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Bessie Janda of Boone.
She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Frances Syrovy; her husband, Lester; grandson, Chris Donn; great-grandson, Adam Ziehr; and her brothers, Jerry, Charles and Fred Syrovy.
Libby was born May 24, 1917, in Cedar Rapids. She was united in marriage to Lester John Orend on Nov. 27, 1937, in Cedar Rapids. She worked mainly in her home caring for her family. She also did a vast amount of volunteer work for Camp Fire, Boy Scouts, the Arc, and was involved with the Mothers of Twins Club. She enjoyed all kinds of needlework, including crocheting and quilting. She and Lester were members and often attended the Western Iowa Boat Club. She also enjoyed camping and listening to Czech music.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend who will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
