Mary Greco Steimel
Italy. She graduated from Oelwein High School in 1948. Mary married Donald Steimel of Cedar Rapids at Sacred Heart Church in Oelwein on Oct. 16, 1954. Seven children were born to this union. The couple raised their family in Newhall and lived there for 55 years.
Mary especially loved time spent with her children, grandchildren and friends. She enjoyed flowers and gardening. She celebrated every Iowa Hawkeye football victory.
Survivors include her children, Patrice (John) Stuekerjuergen of Clive, Mary (Laurance) Domer of Liberty, Mo., Joseph (Kristine) Steimel of West Des Moines, Michael (Brigitte) Steimel of Cedar Rapids and David Steimel of Vinton. There are nine grandchildren: Erik and Jaclyn Stuekerjuergen, Clive; Kathleen Robinson, Pleasant Hill; Hannah, Hailey and Hope Steimel, Cedar Rapids; Devin Domer, Liberty, Mo.; and Nathan and Emily Steimel, West Des Moines. Mary is also survived by her sisters: Carrie Greco, Oelwein; Rosemary Belding, Independence; Josie Lilly, Cedar Falls; Frances “Danny” (Dick) Youngblut, Denver, Colo.; and Julia Caparelli, Council Bluffs; and her brother, John (Bonnie) Greco, North Platte, Neb.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her daughters, Kathleen Steimel and Rebecca Zimmer; a grandson, Daniel Zimmer; her brother, Louis “Dave” Greco; her sister-in-law Bette Greco; and her brothers-in-law: James Lilly, Jim Belding and Joe Caparelli.
Memorials my be directed in Mary's honor to the Disabled American Veterans and the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
