Miene, Priscilla Marie
Priscilla Marie Miene, 70, of Postville, died Saturday, March 12, 2011, at Palmer Lutheran Health Center, West Union, following a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 15, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville. The Rev. Steve Brackett will officiate. Burial will follow in the Postville Cemetery, Postville. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Postville and one hour before services Tuesday at the church.
Priscilla was born Oct. 28, 1940, in Massbach, Ill., to the Rev. William and Bertha (Haferman) Meinen. Priscilla was baptized Nov. 10, 1940, and confirmed on April 3, 1955, both by her father, the Rev. William Meinen.
She attended grade school in Hull, Iowa, and then graduated from high school in Sabula. After graduation, Priscilla went on to cosmetology school in both Minneapolis, Minn., and Davenport, Iowa. Priscilla was united in marriage to William Miene Jr. on Aug. 14, 1960, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. One daughter, Tami Sue Miene, was born to this union. Tami Sue passed away in infancy in 1961.
Priscilla enjoyed music and was passionate about playing both the piano and the organ. She could be found playing the organ at several different churches, including Living Faith United Methodist Church, Monona, Community Presbyterian Church, Postville, Zion Lutheran Church, Castalia, and St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville. She played a key role in organizing the Living Faith United Methodist's production of the Living Last Supper for over 20 years.
Priscilla loved spending time with family and friends and enjoyed sewing. On a summer day, one could find Priscilla and Junior sitting on their driveway with a friendly wave to all those who passed by.
Survivors include her loving and dedicated family members, Trace and Sherri Miene, and their two sons, Kale and Landyn, Monona; sisters, Carol (Leonard) Schmitt, Sioux City, and Teddy (David) Grinnel, Cloquet, Minn.; one brother, Paul (Judi) Meinen, Des Moines; two sisters-in-law, Ruby Foels and Elfrieda Miene, Postville; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Priscilla was preceded in death by her parents, the Rev. William and Bertha Meinen; her husband, William Miene Jr., on Sept. 19, 2010; her daughter, Tami Sue Miene; her twin siblings and their spouses, Esther (Jim) Moos and Ernest (Joann) Meinen; and her brother-in-law, Leroy Foels.
