Manville, Catherine Pfaff (Frederick)
Catherine Pfaff Manville (Frederick), 97, of 2115 First Ave. NE, Cedar Rapids, passed away Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. She previously resided at Cottage Grove Place in Cedar Rapids. Memorial service: 11 a.m., Friday, St. Paul Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Marion. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include her children, Patricia (Michael) Gallagher of Ann Arbor, Mich., Linda (Rhoades) Lawton of Summit, N.J., and Dennis Pfaff of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Frank Pfaff and James Manville; her daughter, Pamela Derrer; her granddaughters, Lisa Ann Gallagher and Cristina Derrer; and brothers, Joseph and Robert Frederick.
Catherine was born August 12, 1912, and was a lifelong resident of Cedar Rapids. She graduated from Washington High School in 1931, and Cedar Rapids Business School in 1933. Catherine married Frank Pfaff in 1935, they were married for 51 years until his death in 1986. In 1990, she married James Manville, they were married until his death in 2006.
Catherine was a creative woman, an artist and an avid gardener. She was a lifelong member of PEO and Elmcrest Country Club and also a volunteer at the YWCA. Catherine enjoyed golf, bowling and bridge and all of the family vacations and reunions over the years. She was employed by Kenmore Foods, Cedar Rapids Baseball Club and Pfaff Sales.
