Vision, leadership help cities thrive

To the editor:
In reference to the proposed bypass of U.S. 30 around the development near Mount Vernon and Lisbon, you can travel along U.S. 6 to Des Moines and see the effects on communities when Interstate 80 was built.
For the most part, I think those towns have done quite well with the exception of Ladora. It's a matter of having strong leadership with commitment and vision toward what you want to create. Ladora lacked it and it shows. It's run down compared to Marengo, Brooklyn, Grinnell and Newton.
