Howell, Craig A.
Craig A. Howell, 34, of Iowa City, died, at his home Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012.
Craig Anthony Howell was born Feb. 25, 1977, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of Michael W. Howell and Patricia E. (Crawford) Howell. He spent most of his youth growing up in Texas, where he graduated from Nacogdoches High School in 1995. He enlisted in the United States Marines and served four years based at Camp Pendleton in San Diego, Calif. He returned to Nacogdoches to attend Steven F. Austin State University receiving his B.S. degree in chemistry in 2003. He moved to Iowa City in 2003, to pursue his Ph.D. from the University of Iowa in Molecular and Cellular Biology, receiving this in 2008. Presently he was doing post doctorate work in the field of cancer research at the University of Iowa.
Craig's family includes his mother, Patricia Howell of Nacogdoches, Texas; father, Michael Howell (Lee Dickson) of Lancaster, Ky.; brother, Christopher Howell of Athens, Texas; sister, Melissa Howell of Fort Mead, Md.; and Craig's wife, Sarah Bergeron, who he married on May 18, 2008, in Iowa City.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Craig's memory.
