38-28 Iowa
Third-and-8 from Michigan's 40, Stanzi had no one open. He just checked down to Adam Robinson for what looked to a short gain.
Three broken tackles and 26 yards later, Iowa had first down at UM's 14.
It turned into Mike Meyer's 30-yard field goal for a 38-28 lead with 2:53 left in the game.
Robinson has 191 yards total offense (130 rush, 61 receiving).
____
35-28 Iowa
Michigan has all the momentum and Iowa is just hanging on for dear life.
The Hawkeyes went three-and-out on the last drive.
Forcier scored from 2 yards to pull the Wolverines within 35-28 with 6:55 left.
UM's last two scoring drives were just more than a minute.
_______
35-21 Iowa
Lots of folks running up the aisles at Michigan Stadium. Might want to wait.
Forcier hit WR Junior Hemingway for a 45-yard TD to pull UM within 35-21 with 10:28 left.
Iowa got caught in a blitz. It was uncontested.
Onsides kick?
_______
35-14 Iowa
DJK faked the up pattern and broke off a slant for maybe the easiest TD he's ever going to score, a 19-yarder that put up the Hawkeyes 35-14 with 11:37 left in the game.
DJK is now No. 1 in career receiving yards with 2,275, breaking Tim Dwight's record.
DJK has four catches for 70 yards and three TDs today. Stanzi is 14 of 21 for 195 and three TDs.
Robinson also went over 100 yards. He's at 22 for 119 with two TDs.
____
28-14 Iowa
Sophomore Tate Forcier replaced Denard Robinson, who left the game with what looked to be an arm injury, and marched the Wolverines down the field with his arm.
Such a departure from when Robinson directed the offense. With Forcier, Michigan is nearly all pass.
However, running back Stephen Hopkins broke through from the 2 to make it 28-14 with 13:10 left in the game. It was the first rushing TD against the Hawkeyes this season.
The Michigan band started playing the "Star Wars" theme after this. Presumably, this is for Forcier.
_____
28-7 Iowa
That's 14 points off Michigan turnovers and a 28-7 Iowa lead on Robinson's 11-yard TD run, his second TD Saturday.
Sophomore cornerback Micah Hyde set up the drive when he intercepted sophomore QB Tate Forcier, who threw the ball late and on the run right into Hyde's hands.
The only third down Iowa saw on the drive was Robinson's TD run, which sealed beautifully by left tackle Riley Reiff.
Robinson now has 19 rushes for 93 yards and two TDs.
___
Iowa DT Karl Klug shot a gap and stripped Michigan SB (scatback) Vincent Smith of the ball at Iowa's 14. DE Lebron Daniel recovered with 6:54 left in the third quarter.
It was Michigan's second turnover of the day.
_____
Correction on the blocked FG.
Twitter folk are telling me it was Broderick Binns.
_____
Stats of note:
Michigan has one turnover and Iowa scored a TD off it. The FG block I don't think counts as a TO, but Iowa scored off that one anyway.
QB Ricky Stanzi is 9 of 15 for 118 yards and two TDs.
RB Adam Robinson has 13 rushes for 77 yards and a TD.
DJK leads Iowa receivers with three catches for 51 yards and two TDs. Robinson has three catches for 35 yards, for 112 total yards in the first half.
Michigan QB Denard Robinson has 92 rush and 70 pass with the interception.
SS Tyler Sash set up two scores. He returned an interception 36 yards for a first down at Michigan's 49. Then, DE Adrian Clayborn blocked a 38-yard field goal attempt and Sash returned that to UM's 48. Both drives ended in Iowa TDs.
Iowa fullback Brett Morse hasn't played. The senior is nursing either a back or hamstring injury. Iowa has used a fullback only twice, so the Hawkeyes have smartly shifted its running philosophy, which usually employs the fullback as a lead blocker.
Iowa is averaging 4.9 yards a carry.
____
21-7 Iowa
DE Adrian Clayborn blocked Seth Broekhuizen's 38-yard field goal attempt and Iowa flashed back to the Northern Iowa game from '09.
The ball fluttered free past the line of scrimmage. Iowa could've downed it, but safety Tyler Sash picked it up and took off. Before Michigan figured it out, Sash's heady play set up the Hawkeyes at UM's 48.
This is an all-Big Ten defense playing like an all-Big Ten defense.
The big play on the scoring drive was RB Adam Robinson's 15-yard run on a third-and-14 at UM's 32.
After a 6-yard grab by DJK for a first-and-goal from the 4, Robinson took a cutback lane untouched for a 4-yard TD and a 21-7 lead. The cutback lanes were there all day for Robinson. TE Brad Herman punctuated with one with a pancake block of Carvin Johnson in the end zone.
Robinson has 77 yards on 13 carries.
___
14-7 Iowa
Off a Denard Robinson interception, the Hawkeyes needed just four plays to march 49 yards for a 14-7 lead.
DJK spun and sort of lost Stanzi's pass in the sun, but he secured it for a 31-yard TD and a 14-7 lead with 13:22 left in the second quarter.
The drive was set up by safety Tyler Sash's interception and 36-yard return to Michigan's 49. Robinson dropped back on a third-and-9 and just threw the ball up for grabs. Sash simply played outfielder and gathered it in just before Michigan receiver Junior Hemingway caught up to the pop up.
Sash is now No. 4 on the Big Ten's career interception return list. That's seven points off turnovers in a game that looks as though that stat will matter big time.
Stanzi at this point is 7 of 12 for 96 yards and two TDs. DJK has two catches for 45 yards and two TDs.
____
7-7
After flopping to a pair of three-and-outs, Iowa's offense muscled up.
RB Adam Robinson went into the drive with minus-2 yards. He came out with seven rushes for 46, including a 19-yard burst that took the ball to UM's 16.
It looked as though Iowa pushed its luck with a third-and-10 at Michigan's 14, but QB Ricky Stanzi hit Derrell Johnson -Koulianos on what looked to be a simple underneath route. DJK broke a couple tackles and bulled in over the pylon to tie the game 7-7 with 1:29 left in the first quarter.
Iowa drove from its 16 relatively easily. The only third down the Hawkeyes saw was the one they scored on. There was a pass interference on J.T. Floyd, when he mugged TE Allen Reisner. This gave Iowa a first down at Michigan's 14.
Can Iowa win a track meet against a track team?
____
Michigan 7-0
Say hello to Vincent Smith. Yes, Michigan has running backs and Smith introduced himself with vigor on Michigan's first drive.
He rushed three times for 19 yards and caught an 8-yard TD pass from QB Denard Robinson for a 7-0 lead with 8:18 left in the first quarter.
Robinson did it with his arm this drive, completing 3 of 4 for 32 yards and the TD. He carried the ball just twice, converting a fourth-and-1 at Iowa's 29 with an 8-yard gain on a QB draw. The Wolverines converted three third downs and one fourth.
Iowa went three-and-out on its first drive. Ryan Donahue punted for just 30 yards from Iowa's 45.
-- Iowa wins toss and will receive.
-- Iowa radio just said Michigan could have as many as four or five new starters on defense today. Don't know if that's injury or performance. One change they noted was junior J.B. Fitzgerald in for MLB Obi Ezeh.
DT Mike Martin has a sore ankle but should go. C Dave Molk also has a sore ankle but should go.
-- The wind is a wisp. Plus, this field is buried under 113,000 people who just yelled "Let's Go Blue."
The $226 million renovation is beautiful. Also, it supposedly made the stadium 30 percent louder.
I'm not a physics major, but I'm sure that's possible.
Michigan begins with an 'M.'
