Tobiason, Helen
Helen Tobiason, 84, of Monticello, died Wednesday morning, Nov. 23, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 28, at Peace United Church of Christ, with interment in Oakwood Cemetery. Richard Schneiter will officiate at the services. Friends may call from 3 until 7 p.m. Sunday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello.
Surviving are two children, Wayne Tobiason and Deb (Wayne) Eiben, both of Monticello; four grandchildren; a stepgrandchild; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Richard (Irene) Mardorf.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Donald, on Dec. 24, 2010.
Helen Louise Mardorf was born Dec. 1, 1926, in Sand Springs, Iowa, the daughter of George and Freda (Schneiter) Mardorf. She received her early education in the rural schools near her home. Helen graduated with the class of 1945 from the Monticello Community Schools. Helen Mardorf and Donald Tobiason were married Oct. 5, 1952, at Peace United Church of Christ, Monticello. The couple started farming in Castle Grove Township and then returned to the Tobiason family farm in Wayne Township. They retired from active farming in 1984. The couple moved to Monticello in 2004.
Helen was a member of Peace United Church of Christ, the Women's Fellowship and was a Sunday school teacher. She had also been active in Cub Scouts and Camp Fire.
