Linn County authorities say phony health inspector have been targeting local businesses.
The man reportedly calls restaurants and says his agency is investigating complaints about the restaurant. He then asks the restaurant worker for personal information so he can process the complaint. Officials in Johnson, Story, and Wright counties have reported similar calls.
Heidi Peck, an environmental health services administrator for Linn County, said real health inspectors won't ask for personal information over the phone prior to an investigation. Officials said food establishment operators who receive suspicious calls should contact their local law enforcement officials.
