Tzortzoudakis, George J.
George J. Tzortzoudakis, 86, a resident of Heritage Nursing & Rehab Center, Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, April 22, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Funeral service: 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 27, at St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, Cedar Rapids, by Father Cyprian Sas. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, where there will be a Trisagion service at 7 p.m., and from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church on Tuesday. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his son, Nick Tzortzoudakis of Cedar Rapids; the children's mother, Marika Tzortzoudakis; brother, Anthony (Jeanne) Tzortzoudakis of Aurora, Ill.; niece, Mary (Larry) Paxton of Cedar Rapids; nephew, John (Xenia) Tzortzoudakis of Los Angeles; and cousin, Jack (Diane) Apostol of Detroit, Mich.
George was preceded in death by his parents; and his oldest son, John.
Born July 13, 1923, in Cedar Rapids, George was the son of John and Mary (Karozo) Tzortzoudakis. He graduated from McKinley High School. For over 30 years he worked for Penick and Ford, then Midland Forge and as a security officer for the city of Cedar Rapids. George was a full member of the American Federation of Grain Millers.
A memorial fund has been established in George's memory.
