PRESERVING HISTORY: Hundreds of tiny Iowa pioneer cemeteries and their history are in danger of being lost forever. So Gail Brown, Kirkwood Community College professor, is using mapping software and global positioning technology to identify and help preserve the cemeteries, at least in Linn County. A Kirkwood endowment is assisting the cost.

JOB SCENE: The Corridor continues to be a bright spot for jobs compared to the national rate of 9.1 percent. Unemployment declined from 5.9 percent to 5.7 percent in the Cedar Rapids metropolitan area, as manufacturing added 500 jobs in July. The Iowa City rate rose just slightly, from 4.8 percent to 4.9 percent.

PREVIEW: Trial plots of prairie grasses and wildflowers at Noelridge Park are a preview of Cedar Rapids' plans for a post-flood greenway along the Cedar River to reduce flooding, filter stormwater and slow erosion.
