Edward James "Jim" Dulin, 85, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2014, at Higley Manson, Cedar Rapids. Services: 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, conducted by Father John Flaherty. Family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military rites.
Survivors include his children, Linda (Stan) Chittick of Williamsburg, Jim (Karen) Dulin of East Peoria, Ill., and Brenda Kelly of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren, Eric Fee (Jenn Walz), Melissa (Dan) Velikaneye, Joe Dulin, Kevin Dulin, Josh (Jess) Kelly and Amber Martin; six great-grandchildren, Lane and Addison Velikaneye, Aubrey and Avarie Kelly, Destiny and Audrianna Martin; siblings, Norma Dyal of Arizona and Frankie (Ila) Dulin of Vinton; and one brother-in-law, Hal Ashmead of New Mexico.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Alyce Dulin; great-grandson, Kameron Martin; and beloved dog, Orrie.
Jim was born Aug. 6, 1929, in Vinton, Iowa, son of Lorenez and Elsie (Fossett) Dulin. He graduated from Vinton High School in 1948. In high school, Jim played football, basketball and ran track. He worked for Witwers canning factory in Cedar Rapids and later for the Cedar Rapids Fire Department for 29 1/2 years. Jim served in the United States Navy from 1948 to 1950 during the Korean War as a fireman 1st class.
On June 6, 1953, he married Mary Alyce Ashmead in Cedar Rapids at St. Matthew's Catholic Church. She later died in 2002.
Jim was a member of the Eagles Club for over 50 years and the Fairfax American Legion. He also played baseball for the American Legion.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Cedar Valley Humane Society in memory of Orrie and Jim Dulin.
