Maresh, Lloyd James
Lloyd James Maresh, 93, of Ely, died Thursday, March 25, 2010, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. As per Lloyd's wishes, private family services will be held at a later date. Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids is in charge of arrangements.
Lloyd was born Sept. 28, 1916, the son of Frank and Emelia Chaloupka Maresh. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked as an engineer for the Milwaukee, CRANDIC and the Rock Island railroads, retiring in 1977. He married Rosemary Houser on May 17, 1949, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City. He was a member of the Swisher American Legion Post 671, Knights of Columbus 909, and the Loyal Order of the Moose 304.
Lloyd was a loving husband and caring father and will be greatly missed.
Lloyd is survived by his wife, Rosemary Maresh; children, David (Joyce) Maresh, Larry (Sandra) Maresh and Rhonda Hanson, (Donn Johnson) all of Swisher, Carol (Joe) Eldeen-Todesco of Fort Pierce, Fla., Ramona Maresh (Bob Verry) of Iowa City, Russell (Barb) Maresh of Ely, Rebecca (Bob) Wade of Fort Madison and Ranelle Meyer of Cedar Rapids; sisters, Leone Novy of Swisher and Evelyn Hynek of Cedar Rapids; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Reyne Patterson; a son-in-law, Richard Hanson; a grandson, Carl Maresh; and a granddaughter, Angela Alderman.
Memorials may be directed to St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids and/or to Mercy Hospice.
