Welty, Dixie L.
Dixie L. Welty, 62, of Onslow, died Friday, Nov. 12, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. A celebration of Dixie's life will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, at Lahey Funeral Home in Wyoming, where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday. Her family has honored her request and the body will be cremated.
Dixie was born April 19, 1948, in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Daniel and Pearl (Lyons) Snelson. She attended school in Des Moines and married Kenneth Welty on Oct. 8, 1977, in Martelle. She co-owned and operated Welty Grain Lines in Onslow. In earlier years, she worked at Allen Motor and McGrath Motors in Cedar Rapids.
Dixie was president of South Mineral Cemetery Association. She was the glue that held her family together and had a generous heart. She loved gardening, traveling, and spending time with
her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Welty of Onslow; a stepson, Jason of Anamosa; two sisters, Denise Greiner of St. Louis, Mo., and Charlene Lange of Onslow; one brother, Dan (Debbie) Snelson of Pleasant Hill; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Linda.
