Column full of contradictions

To the editor:
Regarding the June 1 guest column 'Difficult time to teach” by Kim Miller:
This column was so typical. We need more than 1.25 percent growth. Note the word growth, which the writer equated with 'cut.” Another contradiction was 'declining enrollment” equating with larger class size.
Then we have use of the word 'littered,” referring to Gov. Terry Branstad's speech. There's criticism of No Child Left Behind, an assessment tool, and 'disrespect” of teachers in general. On the other side of the ledger he counters with extolling terms like 'heroic,” 'effective,” and 'extraordinary progress.”
Sadly, House Speaker Kraig Paulsen is also hit with this criticism, no money for education, but we have '$250 million in tax breaks for businesses and corporations.” Yet, somehow there still is success shown by our school rankings?
This clichéd column was chock full of contradictions right out of the playbook.
I did make one call Miller asked for. I called to tell Speaker Paulsen, 'As a retired teacher that 1.25 percent sounds just fine to me.”
