Support new facility for Independence
The Gazette Opinion Staff

A proposed new state-of-the-art, energy-wise, yet modestly designed junior-senior high school is important to the Brandon, Independence and Rowley area. Academically, our teachers need a new facility that supports the teacher's instruction. A facility that helps our children compete for jobs in the 21st century, not one that restricts the teacher's full use of their capabilities to teach.
Economically, a new facility impacts the area in multiple ways - impact felt at motels, the gas pump, restaurants, when we host the first sports tournament in a facility capable of that, or when we host artist series stage performances from touring groups, or when our students present their stage productions, and more. And certainly when we are able to add this new facility to all of our economic development portfolios!
I believe we already have seen positive change in the district stemming chiefly from the progress that Superintendent Jean Peterson has made in her first year at the district's helm. And there is more to come with a new board of education - a board that from all indications will help the superintendent in her plan to make the district the best. Vote yes on Tuesday.
