Jane E. Bergemann, a resident of Marion since 1956, died suddenly on Sunday, Jan. 6, 2019, at the Higley Mansion Care Center in Cedar Rapids at the age of 90.
A visitation will be held at 10 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Marion on Saturday, Jan. 12, followed by a funeral service beginning at 11 a.m. at the church. The family will greet friends at a luncheon at the church immediately after the service. A private family graveside service will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Jane was born in 1928 in Mount Pleasant Township in Racine County, Wis. She grew up on a bee farm owned and operated by her parents in Lincoln County, Wis., and graduated from Merrill High School in Merrill, Wis., in 1946. Following high school, Jane attended the University of Wisconsin for one year and worked for several years as a bookkeeper in Milwaukee. In 1955, she married Gerald T. Jane was active in a number of community organizations, including All Church Singles, the Marion Women's Club, Belles and Beaus square dancing club, and Camp Fire Girls as a counselor. She was an avid reader and enjoyed studying history, traveling and playing lighthearted practical jokes on friends and family.
Jane is survived by her four children, Susan, Diane (Charles), Mark and John (Alexis); three grandchildren, Jaimie (Reginald), Erica and Alexander; and her brother, Elbert of Marshfield, Wis.
The Bergemann family would like to express gratitude to all the staff at the Higley Mansion Care Center for their attentive and thoughtful care.
