MARCELLA VONDRA
Fairfax
Marcella Irene Vondra, 95, passed away peacefully on Jan. 12, 2017.
Marcella was born Feb. 23, 1921, on the Stepanek family farm between Fairfax and Swisher in rural Linn County, Iowa. She married John F. Vondra in 1945 after he returned from World War II in the European Theater, and subsequently started a family while living in Cedar Rapids. They then moved to a farm and John became postmaster in Fairfax. She spent time being a 4-H leader and a Cub Scout pack leader. Marcella and John enjoyed dancing and weekends found them at either a square dance or polka dance.
Upon retirement, they moved to Prescott, Ariz., and then to Mesa, where playing golf and painting were Marcella's prime interests.
Marcella was preceded in death by her husband, John, in 2004; and her brother, Eldon Stepanek, in 2014.
She has two children, Nancy Brooks of Story City, Iowa, and Glenn Vondra of Adel, Iowa, and Port Aransas, Texas; and also three grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Marcella's request was to have her ashes dispersed at one of her favorite places: Superstition Mountain in Arizona.
Condolences can be sent to Nancy at cat.nb93@gmail.com or Glenn at gvondra00archt67@aol.com.
