Not that they had a choice, but the Kinnick Stadium powers-that-be did the right thing by suspending the Tennessee Tech-Iowa game with 3:37 left in the third quarter and Iowa ahead, 34-0.
The threat of lightning was the cause. It was more than a threat. Sharp bolts struck not far from the stadium minutes after the delay began.
The stadium seats are now vacant. Most of the fans who were still here for some reason when play was halted are in vehicles on their way home. If only I were. I have appointment football to watch at home this evening in Boise State-Georgia and Oregon-LSU. I trust they'll be more entertaining than this bloodletting of the FCS program from Cookesville.
Better to have nasty weather today than for a game that matters ... like almost every one of the remaining encounters on Iowa's schedule.
And hey, we needed the rain here.
